Something Else to Keep Me Busy..

Hey All!

Where to start?! I must say these last few days have been some of the happiest! First, I accepted a job in Ho Chi Mihn City, Vietnam and nothing could top that! Then, I found out in April I have the chance to go back to New York City! LOVE! On top of that my healthy eating (most of the time) and working out have really started to pay off, I've reconnected with old friends, and I've been busying with dance, Zumba, and subbing!

I don't really need something else to keep me busy.. but I like having a busy life! So, I have decided to dip my toes into something new! In New Zealand I went on a couple of runs/jogs with my dear roomie, Krystal. I had a lot of fun, plus we had gorgeous scenery! We were talking after one of our runs about 5ks and I decided to make that my new goal, at some point in the summer of 2012, I was going to run a 5k. I have never been the best runner. I am terrible at finding my pace, I always want to go too fast and die out right away! So after getting back home to the cold, Iowa weather, I haven't even attempted to run (even though we have a treadmill in the basement, talk about lazy!) Well thanks to good ol' pinterest, I found my inspiration, The Color Run! If you haven't heard of it, you need to google it... right now!! I'll give you some time.... Are you back? Good! Did you like it?? ;) What a fun first, 5k to run! I am planning on running in Chicago on June 2 and super excited!

So now it is time to start running! I started off strong this morning. I went to pinterest (again) for some treadmill workouts and found one that looked good! It was 3 mile pyramid that took 30 minutes. I wasn't sure if I could even run 15 minutes but I thought I'd give it a go. I ran a bit slower than suggested, so I didn't finish the 3 miles, but I did run 2.5 and went the full 30 minutes! I am so proud of myself! Usually I am done after 10 minutes, if not before. So now that I know I just need to pace myself I am excited to add running to my workout routine! I love Zumba and burn tons of calories, but I do it five nights a weeks and my body needs a switch up. I love that in only 30 minutes of running I burned more that 375 calories!

I really hope I am able to keep finding the time to run. I am excited to be doing something different, and since I want to travel the world, running is something that can be done anywhere!

Your truly,

Michelle

  1. YAY! Good for you :) You need to add Living History Farms on your list as your second race. You would LOVE it! It's 7 miles but it has so many obstacles that it doesn't really feel like 7. A lot of the race is through thick timber so you have to walk anyway! I can't wait for the color run!

  2. Seven miles seems intimidating!! But that sounds like lots of fun!! You will have to let me know what city you do the color run in.. it would be fun to see each other! I am sooo excited!
