Well I happened to find this quote by Voltarie and I thought it fit my life to the T right now, "Let us read and let us dance- two amusements that will never do any harm to the world." I figured finding such a fitting quote was a good reason to blog :)
Right now my life is consumed by reading and dancing. I have applied to sub and was happy to learn my application went through, so hopefully soon I will be subbing during the day. Until then, I spend a good part of my day reading. I have so many books at home that I have bought but haven't read yet. It is my goal to read them all this year, plus the ones I have on my kindle. So far I am on a pretty good role. So far this month I have read Little Bee and The Hunger Games. Both books were so good!! Little Bee was a story about a refugee girl from Nigeria and her relationship with a British couple. It was a quick read and it really made me think. I wasn't sure what to expect when I bought, but the cover caught my attention, so I picked it up and loved it! (Yes, I am guilty of judging books by their covers) Everyone seems to be obsessed with The Hunger Games and being a teacher who would ideally like to teach in an upper elementary classroom, I thought I had better read it. I am not a fan of the Twilight books or Harry Potter and really didn't think I would get too into this book. I began reading it in New Zealand and didn't really like it at first. I was also reading another book at the same time so I kind of forgot about it until last week. I decided to go ahead and give it a second shot. I am so glad I did. It was an amazing book! Once I got into I couldn't put it down!! I think I finished it in two days and the second I was done I ordered the second two books in the trilogy. I can't wait till they get here! So now I am onto book number three of the year, Water for Elephants. I have heard good things about it and am really enjoying it so far!
As for the dance part of the quote, I am still spending Sunday-Thursday night at the dance studios in Farley and Monticello. I don't think I could ever get tired of it! I love that I work will girls as young as five years old through women in their 50's. It is so fun!!
So hopefully I will soon be getting some subbing jobs, but until then I figure I could be doing less productive things all day then reading, so I am content.
Cheers!
Michelle

Advertures in the Kitchen
Those of you who know me, know that every now and then I get into loosing weight. I count calories and workout and I become pretty obsessive. I got a bit up tight when I'd get on these kicks, but not anymore! Ever since I got home from New Zealand I have found myself to be a lot more laid back and I am bringing that attitude into the kitchen. About a week ago I decided I was going to start eating healthy again. I got way off track in New Zealand and let's just say my clothes fit a bit more tightly when I came home.. So here I am telling you about it while I wait for my yummy Hawaiian chicken dinner to get done cooking. (I know, a very exciting Friday night!!)
So, how am I more 'laid back' about my diet you may ask? This time around I am aware of my calorie intake, but my focus is on eating healthy! I am trying to eat less processed foods and get in more fruits and veggies. My favorite part of this so far, green smoothies! Everyday I accompany my cereal or oatmeal with a smoothie made of bananas, spinach leaves, frozen mangoes and pineapple. They are supposed to be really good for boosting metabolism, great for weight loss, and super good for your immune system, so here's to hoping I don't get sick this winter while I shed a few lbs! :) My healthy habit number two, drinking three cups of hot tea (green is the best) everyday. Green tea is also really good for boosting metabolism, not to mention a good way to stay hydrated. Since tea is best when hot, people tend to drink it faster and there are no calories, so double win! I love tea and it's keeps me nice and toasty warm in this cold weather, so it's an easy habit to get into. And finally for my last new healthy habit, making at least one meal a day. I have always been one to eat on the go, now I am taking the time to actually cook! Since I am never around for din din I have been making lunch every day. I am loving Pinterest and all the fun recipes I have found there. Tonight's dinner was quite fabulous (I took a break from writing to eat) and I found it all on Pinterest. I made Hawaiian chicken over white rice wish asparagus, and in case you are interested in the recipes, here they are! It was a hit with rest of the family as well, definitely something I'll make again!
So far all is going well. I am having lots of fun trying new recipes and mixing my new healthy habits with five nights of Zumba each week has already made me feel a ton better! In no time at all I'll be back to my pre-New Zealand body! Thanks for reading, I am sure you were all VERY intrigued by eating habits.. ;)
With love,
Michelle

Long Time, No Blog!
Hello again!
I can't believe it, but as of today I have been back home for four long weeks! I was so sad to leave New Zealand and really didn't think I would have be happy at all being home again. But, here I am blogging and in a fine mood!
I still miss New Zealand (and the gorgeous weather!) but I have been keeping pretty busy at home. I have been teaching dance three nights a week in Monticello and Farley at Almost Famous and having a blast. I really did miss all my dance girls! I am also now doing Zumba five nights a weeks.. it's super fun and a great workout, plus I get to do it with lots of fun people!! I also really missed Zumba, my booty needs it after nine weeks of not working out! I recently got my teaching license in the mail so I am applying to substitute now and excited to keep busy during the day!
New Zealand made me realize how much I love to travel and how I really want to live abroad, soooo now I am looking into teaching internationally. In a few weeks I am going to the UNI overseas career fair with Krystal and am super excited to see what happens with that! I would love to teach somewhere in Europe, but I am open to just about anywhere. We are also looking at schools in Asia and even Cyprus! What could be better than getting paid to teach in another country?!
Since I've been home I have gotten to spend a lot of time with family which has been super fun! I really missed all of my cousins, so it's been fun getting to see them again. I also had a nice little holiday in Las Vegas over New Years with Taylor and her family. We had tons of fun! Her 21st birthday was New Year's day, so we celebrated at midnight out on the strip with lots of fireworks! The Gesie's also taught me how to play Pai Gow. It is a poker game that is super fun and addicting. I believe we held down a table at the Monte Carlo for about six hours! Sadly this time I didn't have any big winnings, I definitely lost money, but it was still a great vacation!
So there you have it, my last four weeks in a nutshell. My life hasn't been too exciting, but I know that will all change soon enough! Until then, I am happy being back in the swing of things at Almost Famous and getting to spend time with the family!
As always,
Michelle
